Teravail Lytho Grips and Lockrings

My work on this project included preliminary market research, concept creation & development, real world testing, and assisting with CMF treatments.

Additionally, I was responsible for creating photorealistic renderings of the products for sales activities.

Components utilized dual-shot injection molding, forging, laser etching, and anodizing.

Preliminary Form, Color, and Material Studies

Form Refinement

To optimize the ergonomics, and improve the traction provided be the grip, we divided the surface into 4 different zones, where the hand and fingers interact with each zone in a specific way.

Final Concept

First Round Samples

Once the concept was finalized, we tested a multitude of different material formulations for the grip material. Real-world back-to-back testing gave us the chance to see how different compounds behaved in different conditions, how comfortable they are with and without gloves, and how long they last.

We also used this opportunity to begin exploring option for the finishing process on the lockrings, as well as sampling colors for the grip material.

Final Production

The initial launch of the Lytho Grip includes 2 sizes and 5 nature-inspired colors that go beyond the original palette that Teravail had in play. The lockrings us a matte finish that propagates throughout other parts of the new lineup, and logos are a subtle laser etching treatment.

Radia Bar Tape and End Plug

Though the bar tape was a much lighter lift on my end, it represents a key component of the collaborative process that helped bring cohesion into the line. Our graphic designer, Paul Hammers, did the big lift with the bar tape, but our conversations led to the “hand rendered” lines that appear on both the grips and the tape. In addition to the graphic work, Paul also was lead on color selection.
